Housing and homelessness

A Siloam Mission model for Terrace

Everyone deserves a warm meal, a safe bed and a way home. I want to bring a model like Winnipeg's Siloam Mission to Terrace, built with Kitselas, Kitsumkalum and our local agencies.

What I've seen

This work starts with showing up

Our unhoused neighbours are our relatives, our friends and our community. These are some of the steps I've already taken.

  • In the encampmentsI've visited Terrace's encampments with 'Ksan Society and the Ministry, and on my own I've brought food to the people living there.
  • Braun Street recovery bedsI was part of the earliest succession planning for the Braun Street supportive recovery beds, alongside Brenna Johnson-Innes.
  • Learning from Siloam MissionI reached out to Siloam Mission in Winnipeg as part of my own research into what works in other cities.
  • Pushing for action nowI'm advocating for a service-connected temporary site through the province's HEART and HEARTH programs, with Kitselas, Kitsumkalum and local agencies at the table.

Why Siloam Mission

Everything under one roof

Since 1987, Siloam Mission in Winnipeg has brought the help people need together in one place, so no one has to go door to door to get back on their feet.

What it could look like here

Built for Terrace, rooted in culture

A Terrace version would learn from Siloam's model and be shaped by the people and Nations of this territory.

One place for help

A meal, a bed, health care and a path to work and housing, all connected.

Culture and healing at the centre

Culturally safe care, with Elders and our teachings as part of the healing journey.

Nations at the table

Kitselas, Kitsumkalum, local agencies and the City planning and leading it together.

Help now, while we build

A service-connected temporary site so people are supported today, not years from now.

Siloam Mission is an independent charity in Winnipeg. This is my own initiative to learn from their model and bring something like it to Terrace. It is not a Siloam Mission project.
